Please feel free to add me to your circle! My policy on adding back is that if you're in my circle on my personal journal, I won't subscribe with this one. If I don't have you in the circle on my personal account, though, I'll add you to my circle here. And if I subscribe to you, please feel free to subscribe back or not, as the mood takes you -- I won't be offended either way.

Oops, five days since I posted last. I guess it's because my creativity is kind of broken right now. The writing's been crap, too -- whether I'm sitting down with a story or a necklace or whatever, the best I've been able to do is just dither around with it and then realize it totally doesn't work.

Stamping

Everyone's seen those cute little necklaces with the stamped phrases on them -- "reach for the stars" or "I <3 U" or whatever. I've been toying for a while with the idea of trying that, but the stamp sets I had found were pretty expensive. Well, when I went to pick up a ring mandrel I found they had a set of 1/16" stamps -- alphabet+ampersand, and numbers 0-9 -- for less than $20. So I picked up a set, as well as some round brass blanks for experimentation and a hole punch and a cheap hammer (no, I didn't already have a hammer. I used to. It's probably in storage. *grumbles*).

Man, it is hard to keep those tiny letters on a straight line. )

I can tell already that if I don't get started now with this blog, I'll get stuck thinking I should write up backstory, you know, post about how I got started and what some of my first pieces were like and how I learned to make a wrapped loop and all that. And then I'll never post, because that's a lot of backstory to write up.

So! Diving into where I am now.

I recently started making my own ear wires! )

I started making jewelry in 2008, because I wanted a hobby I could do with my hands. Previously all my hobbies have been computer-based: writing, graphics, websites. I wasn't even wearing jewelry at the time, but I stopped by a local jewelry supply and scrapbooking store one day, and they showed me a few things, like how to make a simple loop, and how to use a crimp bead to finish the end of a necklace. This was something I felt like I could do! That didn't use a keyboard! So I bought a bunch of pieces and started experimenting.

In the year and a half or so since I started, I've improved a lot. And I keep thinking, maybe I should start blogging about this. I enjoy doing it, and I enjoy writing, why wouldn't I enjoy writing about doing it?

So this is going to be my attempt. We'll see how this goes.
